Church located on an ancient Roman building

Traveling westward in Spain ~ Merida The church dates from the 13th century and was built on the walls of an old building from Roman times immediately after the Christian reconquest of the city. During the excavation of the church's interior, false ceilings and supports were installed so that the discovered Roman-era burial chambers, walls and foundations could be seen.
