[Morioka] Hoonji Temple

[Access] About 10 minutes by taxi from Morioka Station [Points] ~Be moved by the 500 Arhats~ The most attractive feature of Hoon-ji Temple is the 500 Arhats. It is said that there are 499 statues to be exact. It is said that it was built by nine Buddhist sculptors from Kyoto over a period of four years, starting in 1731. All of the statues are made of inlay wood and lacquered, and are designated as cultural properties by Morioka City.
