Late-Night Luck at Shianbashi Ramen: Warm Service & Counter-Side Comfort

We stumbled upon Shianbashi Ramen while wandering the streets near our hotel, hunting for a late-night supper spot. Most of the more well-known ramen shops in the area had long queues, and we weren’t in the mood to wait—so when we found this place with available seats, we walked right in. Unfortunately, their champon—something we were looking forward to—had already sold out for the day. That was a little disappointing, but what stood out was how warm and friendly the staff were. Despite the language barrier, they really tried their best to communicate with us, smiling and pointing to menu items to help us make our decision. It was a small gesture, but one we truly appreciated. We eventually settled on the char siew ramen. It came quickly, and we were seated right at the counter with a great view of the kitchen. Watching the chefs prepare our ramen just a few feet away added to the whole experience—it gave the place a cozy, authentic vibe. As for the ramen itself, the broth was on the saltier side for my taste, but still enjoyable. The char siew was tender and flavorful, and the noodles had a nice bite to them. While the food may not have been the best bowl we had on the trip, the atmosphere and service made the experience memorable.
