Take a stroll through the historic old streets of Tsumago-juku and travel back in time to the Edo era

Going to Tsumago-juku at the southern end of Nagano Prefecture is like walking into an Edo-era ukiyoe painting. This is one of the best-preserved post stations on the Nakasendo Road. The entire old street retains traditional wooden buildings. There are no electric poles, no commercial noise, only tatami houses and old teahouses that quietly tell the history. I walked slowly along the stone road, with small shops selling handicrafts and local snacks on both sides, and I could also see the ancient style of Hatago (former inn). You may want to stop on the way, eat a string of charcoal-grilled gohei cakes, and drink a bowl of miso soup to replenish your energy before continuing your walk. This is not just a tourist attraction, but more like a village frozen in time.
