Phra Pathom Chedi Ratchaworawihan Temple

Wat Phra Pathom Chedi Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan 🛕 is a first-class royal temple of the Ratcha Wora Maha Wihan type, located in Phra Pathom Chedi Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Pathom District. It is the largest stupa in Thailand. Nakhon Pathom Province uses Phra Pathom Chedi as the provincial seal. The current Phra Pathom Chedi was built during the reign of King Rama IV in 2396 B.E., with the royal command to build a cover over the original stupa, which was an old stupa with an inverted bowl base and a prang spire on top. It is assumed to have been built in the early 4th Buddhist century, as the shape of the inverted bowl stupa is similar to the Sanchi Stupa in India, which was built during the reign of King Ashoka the Great. The construction of the new cover stupa was completed during the reign of King Rama V in 2413 B.E., taking 17 years to complete. The new stupa is a round, bell-shaped stupa in the Sri Lankan style. It is 3 sen 1 cubit 10 inches (or approximately 120.5 meters) high from the ground to the crown. The base measures 5 sen 17 wa 3 sok (or approximately 233 meters). Inside, the relics of the Lord Buddha are enshrined. Later, during the reign of King Rama VI, Wat Phra Pathom Chedi was renovated to be more magnificent and was considered the temple of King Rama VI. Phra Pathom Chedi is open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. ✨🛕 Phra Ruang Rojanarit is a standing Buddha statue in the attitude of granting forgiveness. It is enshrined in the northern chapel niche in front of Phra Pathom Chedi. It was built during the reign of King Rama VI. The head, hands, and feet were brought from Si Satchanalai, Sukhothai Province. His Majesty ordered craftsmen to make a complete wax statue. The casting ceremony was held at Wat Phra Chetuphon in 1913 and then it was enshrined in the northern chapel niche, opposite the grand staircase. And bestowed the name “Phra Ruang Rojanarit Si Intharathit Thammamophas Maha Vajiravudh Ratchapuchaniyabophit” and at the base of this Buddha statue is the place where the royal remains of King Rama VI are enshrined. 🙏🏻✨ The invitation of Phra Ruang Rojanarit in July 2457 had to be separated and assembled in Nakhon Pathom Province, and was completed on November 2, 2458 after King Rama VI passed away. According to his royal will, his royal remains were enshrined under the base of Phra Ruang Rojanarit at Phra Pathom Chedi.
