#Places to visit near Bangkok 🙏Wat Phra Prathon Chedi Worawihan, a third-class royal temple. The highlight of the temple is Phra Prathon Chedi, a Dvaravati-era chedi. The original form was an inverted bowl, in the style of Dvaravati-era chedis. It was built of bricks with a square base and a stupa on top. However, the original stupa has completely collapsed. Evidence suggests that it was beautiful and very complete, with many stucco decorations, but it has been severely damaged over time. 🛕Excavation studies have found that the original Phra Prathon Chedi used bricks as the main construction material and laterite as components. It was built in a square plan with a raised base. The lower southern base has stairs on all four sides to lead up to the upper second southern base, which is the central part or the chedi chamber, in the same raised plan as the lower one. Each side of the chedi chamber has a sash at intervals around it. There is no evidence of the original sash decorated with any sculptures. 🛕Since the temple is located in the middle of the ancient city of Nakhon Chai Si, many antiques have been excavated in the temple area, such as Buddha images and stucco Buddha heads. Dvaravati clay Buddha amulets, rosary beads, and bronze metal in the shape of a Garuda stepping on a Naga, which King Rama VI used as his official symbol. Some of these antiques are kept at the Phra Pathom Chedi National Museum. 🛕It is assumed that Wat Phra Pathom Chedi was built around 2324 BE. The temple is located approximately 20 meters above the Phra Pathom Chedi. It is assumed that it was moved from its original location about 200 years ago because inscriptions with letters and numbers were found in plaster, indicating that it was repaired in 2456 BE and that it received the royal charter of the boundary markers in 2327 BE. 🏕According to the legend of Phra Kong and Phra Phan, Phra Phan built Phra Pathom Chedi to atone for the sin of killing his foster grandmother Hom. Both Phra Pathom Chedi and Phra Pathom Chedi were abandoned in the forest for hundreds of years until King Rama IV, while he was a monk, found them on a pilgrimage.
