Phra That Prasit

Phra That Prasit is enshrined at Wat That Prasit. It was originally named Wat That because there is an old pagoda with no evidence of when it was built. It looks similar to the pagoda at Wat Si Bunruang in Vientiane. It is assumed that it was built around the same time. Later, in 1956, Phra Khru Prasit Suksakon, the abbot of Wat That Prasit, built a new pagoda, imitating Phra That Phanom. It is square in shape with two doors that can be opened and closed. The relics of the Lord Buddha and the relics of 14 Arahants, as well as soil from four holy places: the place of birth, enlightenment, the place of preaching, nirvana, and the Buddha image found in the old pagoda, were enshrined in the pagoda. It was completed in 1963 and the new pagoda was named Phra That Prasit after the royal title of Phra Khru Prasit Suksakon, the abbot who built it. It is the pagoda for people born on Thursday. The merit of those who come to pay homage will result in success in their careers and advancement as desired. Every year, there is a festival to worship the chedi, which is the “Fourth Month Merit Festival of Dee Na Wa”, which falls on the 12th waxing moon of the fourth month to the 15th waxing moon of the fourth month. #Nakhon Phanom
