Admire the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nanjing

Located within the Zhongshan Scenic Area, the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum is the tomb of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, and his wife, Empress Ma. It is one of the largest imperial tombs in ancient China and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. The Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum is one of the largest ancient tombs still in existence. It is grand in scale, set against the beautiful backdrop of Zhongshan. Walking along the Sacred Way, you will see six types of stone animals on either side. Next is the second section of the Sacred Way, known as Wengzhong Road, lined with stone statues of military officers and civil officials, creating a majestic atmosphere. The red walls and yellow tiles of the Wenwu Fangmen are stunning. Beyond the Fangcheng is the Ming Tower, and passing through it, you will see the wall of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang's tomb. Climbing the tower offers an even broader view. The tomb has not been excavated, adding to the mystery of the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum. The Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum offers different scenery in each season. We visited in early summer when the French sycamore trees along the road were lush and vibrant. This area, known as the Avenue of the Mausoleum, is a popular spot for photos. The early summer weather was pleasant, not too hot, with dense greenery. This natural beauty, combined with the rich historical significance, makes it the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nanjing. Take Metro Line 2 and get off at Muxuyuan Station, then walk about 8 minutes to the ticket office of the scenic area.
