Tadao Ando's new architectural masterpiece, the Naoshima New Art Museum, opened on May 31. Tadao Ando's new museum has opened in Naoshima. This is the tenth project that Tadao Ando has completed in Naoshima, and it combines Ando's signature exposed concrete architecture with spaces that utilize light. The exterior, finished with black plaster and gravel, is influenced by local materials from the Honmura area of Naoshima, and the black cedar walls, which look like they were burned by fire, were completed by referencing the texture of houses in the local village. The Naoshima New Art Museum consists of two buildings, one of which is a cafe, and the other is an exhibition space with 1 floor above ground and 2 floors underground. The exhibition space currently displays works by Takashi Murakami, Cai Guoqiang, and Do-ho Suh, and it is said that in the future, contemporary art focusing on the Asian region will be showcased. In the cafe, you can enjoy brunch and coffee while taking in the expansive Seto Inland Sea scenery.
