Let's practice together in the footsteps of "Kobo Daishi (Kaiku)" about 1,200 years ago There are 88 temples along this approximately 1,400-kilometer pilgrimage route across four prefectures in Shikoku (Kagawa, Ehime, Kochi, and Tokushima). "Henkō" refers to the path of practice of Kobo Daishi (Buddhist name: Kukai), the founder of the Shingon sect, about 1,200 years ago in 815 AD. Later, Shikoku also became a place where pilgrims followed Kobo Daishi. The four prefectures of Shikoku also reflect the four cosmic symbols of the Buddhist mandala, and through practice one can see one's true nature and attain enlightenment. Traveling through the four prefectures of Shikoku, Tokushima is the place to awaken the soul, Kochi is the place for practice, Ehime is the place for enlightenment, and Kagawa is the place for nirvana. Due to our limited time, we only visited three temples, Honraku-ji Temple, Anraku-ji Temple, and Ryozan-ji Temple. We came here to pay homage during the New Year and to cleanse our souls!
