Lakeside Chuzenji, blessed with cool and rich nature, was built by many villas by foreigners, including embassies of various countries, from the mid-Meiji period to the early Showa period, and it was bustling as an international summer resort. The symbolic building of the park was built in 1896 as a private villa for British diplomat Ernest Sato, who had a great impact on the Meiji Restoration. After that, it was used as a villa for the British Embassy until 2008, and then donated to Tochigi Prefecture.
