The Zheng's Residence is grand in scale, magnificent in momentum, and well laid out. There are streets on the house, markets in the streets, and shops, workshops, restaurants, and tea houses of all trades. The residence is surrounded by rivers, with small rivers crisscrossing and connecting to the big river, leading directly to Ningbo and the coastal ports. Every family has a wharf and a bridge outside their door, presenting the beautiful scenery of the water town in Jiangnan. The Seventeen Houses are composed of courtyards, closely connected, with wing rooms, halls, main rooms, pavilions, large, medium, and small patios, and gardens combined with each other. According to the grade, the houses are divided into sections, with the main gate, second gate, side gate, partition window, hall door, back door, corridor, and small alley, forming a connected door, leading in all directions. The walls of the houses are tall, and the horsehead walls are arranged in an orderly manner. There are four sections and five sections. The horsehead walls here are different from others, such as those in Anhui, which are thin, pointed, and often filled with gray mud, looking monotonous and imposing, while the horsehead walls of the Seventeen Houses are tall and powerful, with exquisite craftsmanship, and often have various animal and plant sculptures in the corners, which are beautiful.
