Prasat Temple

Wat Prasat is a national historical site. The most charming feature is the temple’s chapel, which is a Maha-ut chapel. It has no windows on either side of the walls. In the front, there is a castle-shaped door decorated with stucco patterns. At the back, there is only a small skylight behind the principal Buddha image. Another distinctive feature of the chapel is that it is shaped like the hull of a junk, or what is called “falling into the elephant’s belly”. The base of the chapel is curved like the curve of a junk, which is the unique characteristic of the chapel. Inside the chapel, there is a Buddha image, the principal Buddha image, called Luang Pho Yai or the Phra Buddha Prasat Thong. It is a stucco Buddha image in the meditation posture, enshrined together with disciples and a group of more than 25 stucco Buddha images in the meditation and Mara-Vijaya postures. It is a sacred Buddha image that the people of Nonthaburi worship.
