Mononobe Shrine is the Ichinomiya of Iwami Province. The deity worshipped here is Umashimaji no Mikoto, ancestor of the Mononobe clan. His father, Nigihayahi no Mikoto, once ruled the land of Yamato. Then, he came into conflict with Kamu Yamato Iwarebiko no Mikoto when he marched eastward. As a result of this conflict, Nigihayahi no Mikoto withdrew, and Kamu Yamato Iwarebiko no Mikoto later became the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu. Umashimaji no Mikoto, who followed Nigihayahi no Mikoto's great achievements, pacified various countries and developed the land! And so, he finally arrived in Iwami Province.
