Just returned from Hulunbuir, it was truly freezing cold...

I just got back from Hulunbuir, and that chill is still fresh in my memory! This leisurely trip, paired with a reliable driver, allowed me to visit all the must-see spots. While Inner Mongolia is an excellent summer retreat during these two months, the morning and evening chill really makes you shiver! When visiting Hulunbuir, remember that the best travel time is June to August, though flight and hotel prices surge during this period, so book in advance. If flying, your destination is Hailar Airport—don't mistakenly book flights to Hohhot, as these two places are worlds apart! The temperature difference between morning and evening is huge; even in summer, you'll need a thick jacket. Women should wear boots, as the prairie grass grows tall and can scratch your feet. The UV rays are extremely strong, so apply sunscreen frequently—otherwise, you'll end up like me, several shades darker. When I went in early June, the strong winds could blow you "silly," so hats and masks are essential. There are many mosquitoes and midges on the grasslands, so bring insect repellent. If you're prone to allergies, pack antihistamines too. Accommodation on the grasslands is limited, so don't set your expectations too high, but you can experience the unique Mongolian yurts and wooden cabins. While on the grasslands, be sure to try grass sliding, horseback riding, feeding sheep, and milking cows! Don't miss the local cuisine either—Mongolian food, Russian dishes, milk tea, iron pot stews, and various beef and mutton dishes, each full of local flavor. Since fruits are scarce on the grasslands, buy some in Hailar city before heading out to get your vitamin C. The most beautiful scenery in Hulunbuir is actually along the way, so don't obsess over checking off tourist spots. For first-timers, self-driving isn't recommended; you need an SUV to handle the complex road conditions, and many areas have no signal. You'll encounter steep slopes, and navigation systems won't find many scenic spots, so it's best to have a local guide. Be careful with "experienced local guides" as many use internet photos for promotion—always ask for real photos to verify. Beyond the wooden fences of the Morgen River, herds of cattle and sheep graze leisurely, bringing to life the poetic image of "wind bending grass to reveal cattle and sheep." Manzhouli is a must-visit with its strong Russian influence, making you feel like you're in Russia. The windmill cluster on Tonghu Road near Manzhouli is perfect for photos. Note that there's no signal at border checkpoints and around Manzhouli, so download offline maps in advance. The two-hour drive from 186 Colored Ribbon River to Manzhouli has no rest areas, so make sure to use the bathroom beforehand!
