When I stand in front of the Auschwitz unloading platform, what comes to mind are not the numbers in history books, but the countless families sent to their deaths. This was once the boundary between life and death, and once on this track, most people could never return. I close my eyes and try to imagine—if I were standing here in the 1940s, the train packed with innocent mothers and children, cries echoing, worry and fear filling the air. And when I imagine the people on the train as my own children, an unbearable despair instantly overwhelms me, and tears flow uncontrollably. Although this history has passed, its pain should not be forgotten.
