The trip from Sapporo to Otaru was short, but it was even more special because of the ocean view outside the window. A day in Otaru was perfect with beautiful streets, delicious food, and romantic canal scenery. 🚆 How to get from Sapporo to Otaru - Tips for enjoying the ocean The train from Sapporo Station to Otaru Station takes about 30 to 40 minutes one way. If you sit on the right side of the train, you can enjoy the ocean view. On the other hand, if you sit on the left side when returning from Otaru to Sapporo, you can enjoy the ocean view again. The ocean was especially beautiful during the sunset. 💡 Additional Tip! Recommended reserved seat: It costs extra, but you can enjoy the ocean view from a wider and more comfortable seat. Especially in the summer, there are many tourists, so it is not easy to secure a seat, so reserving a reserved seat will make your trip more comfortable. Otaru Canal - Encountering Romantic Scenery The Otaru Canal on a clear day was really beautiful. The scenery of the red brick warehouse and the calm waves felt like a painting. However, the boat tour was not as special as I expected, so I personally do not recommend it! Of course, the Otaru Canal is also really beautiful during the day, but it is also beautiful at sunset, so adjust your time to visit. Rather than a boat tour, it is more romantic to take a leisurely walk and enjoy the canal. Hidden restaurant at Otaru Station - Ice cream + red bean A small cafe at Otaru Station where I stopped by while waiting for the train after finishing my trip. The combination of ice cream and red bean I had there was really great! The sweet red bean and soft ice cream were a perfect harmony. If you have time to spare, definitely stop by! If you are not sure about the train time, I recommend taking a break here and spending some leisurely time! In addition to the ice cream, the coffee menu is also delicious, so enjoy them together.
