Wat Mongkhon Bophit, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

It houses a very large Buddha statue, reflecting the inseparable power of religious beliefs from social and political ideals. It also serves as evidence of the knowledge of metallurgy and the ability to cast metals, especially bronze, which was one of the most important metals during the Ayutthaya period. Located to the south of Wat Phra Si Sanphet, it shares the same route as the way to Khun Phaen's House. The Viharn Phra Mongkhon Bophit is not far away. Phra Mongkhon Bophit is a bronze-cast Buddha statue in the Mara Vichaya posture, with a width of 9.55 meters and a height of 12.45 meters, making it one of the largest Buddha statues in Thailand. There is no clear evidence of the exact period it was built.
