Mae Nang Plueum Temple, Ayutthaya

Wat Mae Nang Pluem, originally called by locals as "Wat Nang Pluem" or "Wat Somphluem", is assumed to have been built around 1920. The area where the temple is located was once the site of a Burmese camp that surrounded Ayutthaya several times. There is still a mound of the camp, which locals call "Kok Burma". The style of art, from the style of the main pagoda of the temple, is assumed to have been built at the same time as Wat Thammarat and Wat Mahaeyng Khana, that is, it is a bell-shaped pagoda in the Sri Lankan style, standing on a lion-surrounded base, and decorated with stucco patterns on the gable of the chapel. Inside the temple, there is a bell-shaped pagoda built as the main pagoda, built on a high base. The lower base is surrounded by stucco lions, which is a lotus base decorated with lotus buds. This lotus pattern is inherited from Khmer-Lopburi art. The difference is that the lotus bud base is quite high, leaving a lot of space at the bottom of the wood, and the lotus buds at the bottom are small and have 2 lines, which is a style that evolved from the early Ayutthaya period. It is estimated to be around the end of the 21st Buddhist century. As for the chapel, there is evidence that it was renovated in the early Rattanakosin period. Judging from the stucco patterns on the front gable, it is a pattern influenced by Chinese art. It was popular around the reign of King Rama III. At this temple, there is still a carved wooden pediment by Rattanakosin craftsmen on the back pediment. It is currently kept at the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum. Inside the temple, there is Luang Pho Khao, "Phra Phutthanimit Mongkhon Si Rattana Trai", a sacred Buddha image. People often stop by to pay homage and ask for blessings and make vows. Everyone usually gets their wish fulfilled. Each person comes to make an offering of boiled eggs and garlands. The pagoda, the temple, and Luang Pho Khao were renovated by the Fine Arts Department in 2000, so they look outstanding. #Ayutthaya is worth visiting #Visit Ayutthaya temples #Worship the Buddha at nine temples #Old Ayutthaya temples
