Phra That Cho Hae

Phra That Cho Hae is an important sacred object of Phrae and is the sacred object of those born in the year of the Tiger. According to the belief in paying homage to the “Phra That of the Year of Birth” of ancient Lanna, it is believed that those born in the year of the Tiger will receive great merit when they pay homage to Phra That Cho Hae. Phra That Cho Hae is an ancient site that is over a thousand years old and has been in Phrae for a long time. There are two main legends about the origin of this chedi: - The legend of Phra That Cho Hae in the Royal Chronicles of Sukhothai states that Wat Phra That Cho Hae was built between 1879-1881 by “Khun Lua Ai Kom” who built a chedi at “Doi Kosiyathachakbanphot” (the location of Phra That Cho Hae) and brought the relics of the Lord Buddha that were bestowed by “Phra Maha Thammaracha (Lithai)” (when he was the Crown Prince of Si Satchanalai) to be enshrined under the base of this chedi, which is the current Phra That Cho Hae. -The legend of Phra That Cho Hae in the legend of Phra Chao Liap Lok states that in the past, when the Lord Buddha came to Mueang Phon (Phrae), he stayed at "Doi Kosiyathachakkhaban", the leader of the Lawa people, "Khun Lawa Ai Kom", came to pay homage. The Lord Buddha performed a miracle and gave the Buddha's relics (hair relics) as a souvenir.
