Wat Phra That Chae Haeng, Royal Monastery Phra That Chae Haeng is a sacred pagoda of Nan people. It is estimated to be around 600 years old. King Prakan ordered its construction in 1891 to enshrine the relics of the Lord Buddha that were brought from Sukhothai. The pagoda is 55.5 meters high and sits on a square base with a width of 22.5 meters on each side. It is covered with gold leaf and is one of the most beautiful ancient sites in Lanna. Every year, there is a festival to worship Phra That Chae Haeng between the 11th and 15th waxing moons of the 6th lunar month in the north, which is around the end of February or the beginning of March of each year. Phra That Chae Haeng is an important religious site of Nan and is over 600 years old. According to the chronicles of Nan, King Prakan ordered its construction to enshrine the relics that were brought from Sukhothai between 1891 and 1901. The architecture of the church of Wat Phra That Chae Haeng is important and shows the architectural style and art of Nan craftsmen. Phra That Chae Haeng is another beautiful construction art in the North. It is an art of construction that was influenced by the construction of Phra That Hariphunchai. The characteristics of the surrounding area of the chedi are that it is covered with gold leaf. The walkway leading up to the chedi is a Naga. The pediment above the entrance door is molded in a Naga pattern that is unique to the craftsmen and the art of Nan Province. The people of Lanna believe that traveling to pay homage to Phra That Sae Haeng, or as the Lanna people call it, “Chu That,” will bring strong blessings, making life good, happy, free from illnesses and advancement in one’s career, etc. Anyone who wants to travel to pay homage to Phra That Sae Haeng can do so every day.
