#Songkran2024Travel The Big Buddha of Phuket, or as foreigners call it, the full name of His Holiness Somdej Phra Nyanasamvara, Somdej Phra Sangharaja Sakol Maha Sanghaparinayok, was given as “Phra Phuttha Ming Mongkol Eknakkiri” and he also issued a royal decree appointing it as the Buddha image of Phuket. The Buddha image is enshrined on the top of Nakkerd Mountain. It is large, with a lap width of 25.45 meters and a height of 45 meters. The outer surface is decorated with white jade marble “Suriyakanta” from Burma, making it pure white throughout. It can be clearly seen even from far away. Although it is a high mountain, the way up is a good road that gradually climbs. Driving is not scary at all. At the entrance, there is a large parking lot. There are souvenir shops, drinks, and snacks. When you go inside, you will find a Chinese temple area with statues of gods from the Mahayana sect for worship. Walk further in and you will find the Big Buddha. At the base of the Buddha image, there is a room for making offerings to monks, making merit to monks according to the day of birth, and performing other Buddhist activities. If you walk up the stairs to the big Buddha, you will see a statue of King Rama V, various postures of the Buddha, and many revered monks. Another highlight here, besides the beautiful Buddha statue, is that it is a point where you can see a 360-degree view of Phuket and the surrounding islands. There are pavilions for shade in some places, but if you go during the day when the sun is hot, it is recommended to bring a hat or umbrella. There is no entrance fee to enter the place, but you can make merit according to your faith.
