Revitalizing National Treasures! The Puxian Opera Training Center at Sanqing Hall creates a new window for promoting traditional culture

The Sanqing Hall of the Yuanmiao Temple in Putian, located to the west of the main hall, is now the "Puxian Opera Training Center". Puxian Opera (formerly known as "Xinghua Variety Play" or "Xinghua Opera"), a traditional local opera genre in Fujian Province, is one of China's national intangible cultural heritages and one of the oldest existing opera genres in China. Puxian Opera originated in the Tang Dynasty, matured in the Song Dynasty, flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and shines in the modern era. It is popular in the Xinghua-speaking regions of Putian and Xianyou counties, known as Xinghua in ancient times, and in central and southern Fujian. It still retains many musical elements of the Southern Opera from the Song and Yuan Dynasties and is known as the "living fossil of Southern Opera from the Song and Yuan Dynasties". To inherit and develop the national intangible cultural heritage of Puxian Opera and further revitalize the national cultural preservation unit of Sanqing Hall, the Putian Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the Fujian Puxian Opera Theatre have newly established the Puxian Opera Training Center. Leveraging the geographical advantage of Sanqing Hall as the "urban drawing room," a new space for the shared creation and enjoyment of intangible traditional culture by citizens and tourists from home and abroad has been introduced. Under the premise of protecting ancient buildings, the national cultural preservation unit Sanqing Hall has been transformed into a space for various forms of live Puxian Opera performances. It also includes the exhibition and sale of Puxian Opera cultural and creative products, Puxian Opera intangible heritage and folk custom study, folk music training, opera actor training, master lectures, tea ceremony performances, tea art training, incense ceremony displays, and more. Citizens can experience the excellent traditional culture of Puxian in an antique space; the training center also provides a new cultural and tourism experience for citizens, creating a new landmark for the integration of culture and tourism in Putian.
