Wat Mahathat Worawihan

Wat Mahathat Worawihan, Ratchaburi Province is an ancient temple of Ratchaburi Province. The interior is beautiful. There is a sacred principal Buddha image and an old prang. It is considered a very classic ancient site. It was originally built in the Dvaravati period, around the 13th Buddhist century. Later, around the 18th Buddhist century, Khmer culture from the Kingdom of Cambodia spread to Ratchaburi. Therefore, the religious site in the center of Ratchaburi was built and converted into a prang. A laterite wall was built around it to be the center of the city according to the Khmer beliefs about the universe. Later, in the early Ayutthaya period, around the 20th - 21st Buddhist centuries, an Ayutthaya-style prang was built on top of each other and 3 satellite prangs were built on the same base. In addition, there are murals on the prang. It is a temple that enshrines the relics of the Lord Buddha. It is considered a sacred temple of Ratchaburi Province.
