The Rise and Fall of Ancient Rome: The Colosseum at Sunset

The Colosseum in Rome, the only four-tiered amphitheater in the world, was constructed between 72-80 AD by 80,000 Jewish captives. It stands as a symbol of ancient Roman civilization. Covering an area of about 20,000 square meters, it has a circumference of approximately 527 meters and a height of about 57 meters, equivalent to a 19-story building. The first three levels feature 80 arches each, forming 80 openings. The seating is tiered, allowing for a maximum capacity of 90,000 spectators. Its design was so advanced that it could be evacuated in just a few minutes, making it the precursor to modern stadiums. Upon completion, a brutal celebration was held, featuring a 100-day bloodbath involving 5,000 wild beasts and 3,000 slaves and prisoners of war, all of whom perished. It is said that if you grab a handful of soil from the arena, you can see the bloodstains imprinted on your palm. Before visiting Rome, it's recommended to watch the TV series 'Rome' and 'Spartacus', as well as the Oscar-winning film 'Gladiator', to fully immerse yourself in the grandeur and decline of ancient Rome. #AncientRome #Colosseum #RomanHistory
