Famous attractions in Rome, Italy: Arch of Constantine, suitable for taking photos📸

#MarchGoodPlaces2025 Rome, Italy is a world-famous tourist resort city. Every day, thousands of tourists come here for sightseeing and vacation. There are many attractions in Rome. This time I will introduce a very famous attraction in Rome: the Arch of Constantine. The Arch of Constantine, 21 meters high, 25.7 meters wide and 7.4 meters deep, Rome, Italy. The Arch of Constantine is named after the Roman Emperor Constantine. Constantine the Great was a legendary emperor in Roman history. During his reign, he unified the entire Roman territory and was also the first king to openly believe in Christianity. Between 312 and 315, the Senate decided to build a huge triumphal arch with three passages next to the Colosseum to commemorate Constantine's victory over Maxentius. The Arc de Triomphe was built with Roman cement, and most of the sculptures are reliefs, most of which were collected from other buildings in the Roman Empire at that time and assembled into the Arch of Constantine. The most famous are the eight reliefs at the top of the Arc de Triomphe, which were removed from the Monument to Emperor Marc Aurelius and are now treasured in the Capitoline Museum. The rest of the sculptural decoration comes mostly from other large buildings built during the reigns of Trajan, Hadrian, and Marcus Aurelius. The columns on the Arc de Triomphe also come from an earlier era. Sculptors transformed the relief panels, replacing the heads of the previous emperors with the features of the new emperor in order to glorify Constantine. This transformation of the Arch of Constantine is often considered a step backward, demonstrating the decline in creativity and technology during the turbulent years of the Roman Empire. These sculptures were carefully chosen with the aim of establishing a link between Constantine and the "good emperors" of the 2nd century. Certain reliefs on the Arc de Triomphe emphasize this connection—one shows Constantine standing on a rostrum in the Roman Forum, flanked by Hadrian and Aurelius. In another relief, Constantine is shown with an attendant beside him, distributing gifts to the citizens, who approach him from left to right with expressions of gratitude on their faces. These figures have short stature and are very similar to the images of the Four Emperors ruling together. The artist did not follow the principles of classical art and express the characters' movements naturally, but instead made them pose in very mechanical postures like puppets.
