Switzerland - St. Gallen Abbey Library, a magnificent Baroque-style building.

#AprilGoodDestinations2025 The ancient Abbey of Saint Gall and its extraordinary library, the Abbey Library of Saint Gall, are the oldest libraries in Switzerland. They house a large number of precious manuscripts and cradle books in a beautiful Baroque-style hall. The painted reliefs on the dome depict the first four ecumenical councils in Christian history, which are of special historical significance. The library of the Abbey of St. Gall houses many treasures, the most famous of which is a large globe from 1576 and an ancient Egyptian mummy from 2,700 years ago. Due to its well-preserved state and cultural significance, the monastery, along with its library and other buildings, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is well worth a visit. Tickets are required to enter the library, 18CHF for adults, and free entry for holders of the Swiss Travel Pass.
