Amabikiyama, a sacred place for safe childbirth and child rearing

Amabiki Sanrakuhoji Temple, also known as Amabiki Kannon, is an ancient temple that is said to have been founded in 587 by Horin Dokushu Koji, a Chinese immigrant. The temple's name was given to it by imperial decree by Emperor Saga, who believed it was effective in praying for rain during droughts. It was rebuilt by Prince Munetaka in 1254 (Kencho 6), and was further rebuilt by Ashikaga Takauji during the Kenmu era (1334-1338). Emperor Shomu and Empress Komyo were devoted followers of the temple, and it was later made into a training center for the Shingon sect by Kobo Daishi. It is one of the leading temples in the Kanto region, widely known as a sacred place for safe childbirth and child-rearing.
