Wat Rai Khing, Nakhon Pathom Province Although it has been renamed ‘Wat Mongkhon Chindaram’, the locals still call it ‘Wat Rai Khing’ with familiarity. The Buddha statue of Luang Por Wat Rai Khing, enshrined in the ordination hall, according to legend, floated down the water and was brought to Wat Sala Poon. The Buddha statue is made of bronze in the Mara-Vijaya attitude. Its appearance is beautiful with three periods of Buddhist art: a radiant figure in the Chiang Saen style, a graceful Sukhothai-style hand, and a beautiful face in the Rattanakosin style. It is enshrined on a five-tiered pedestal, believed to have been created by craftsmen from the Lanna and Lan Xang periods. Somdej Phra Buddhacarya (Phuk) invited this Buddha statue from Wat Sala Poon by floating it down the water using a bamboo raft. When it reached the front of Wat Rai Khing, it was invited to be enshrined in the ordination hall on the 15th day of the waxing moon in the 5th month, which is the Songkran Day. While inviting Luang Por up from the raft, A miracle happened. Rain fell amidst the previously hot weather, causing coolness. Therefore, there is a belief that Luang Por Wat Rai Khing will bring peace and happiness, extinguish the heat and alleviate all suffering.
