Sapporo gets a lot of snow in the winter. It really snows like crazy. If you just get off the main street, the snow piles up to the second floor of an apartment building. With this much snow, it doesn't seem like there's enough snow to hold a snow festival (Yukimatsuri). It doesn't feel like it's on the continent like the Chinese Ice Lantern Festival, but there's no admission fee and performances are held on a large stage at regular intervals.
