When you think of Hokkaido, you think of miso ramen 🍜 Sapporo is home to countless ramen shops, making it tough to decide where to eat during a limited itinerary. As a local, I’m here to recommend my top 5 picks for Sapporo miso ramen ☝️ 📍1. Shirakaba Sansou The highlight of this shop is the unlimited boiled eggs! A pile of boiled eggs is placed on the table, so you can enjoy them with a sprinkle of salt before your ramen arrives or add them to your ramen 🥰 Of course, their miso ramen is absolutely amazing ❤️ 📍2. Menya Kotetsu This shop is as famous for its fried chicken (zangi) as it is for its ramen. Many locals order the ramen and zangi set 😁 My personal recommendation is the shrimp miso ramen 🍜, a rich and flavorful ramen with a deep shrimp broth ☝️ 📍3. Ramen Ku While it used to have a location in central Sapporo, the shop unfortunately burned down and now operates only at New Chitose Airport. Many locals make the trip to the airport just to eat here. The must-try dish is the grilled corn miso ramen 🍜, featuring a generous amount of sweet corn that pairs perfectly with the rich miso soup! 📍4. Miso Ramen Yamaokaya This is Yamaokaya’s specialty miso ramen shop! They offer a variety of miso ramen options, but my top pick is the sesame miso ramen 🍜. The miso soup with plenty of ground sesame is simply irresistible ❤️ 📍5. Ebisoba Ichigen This shop is hugely popular among international visitors for its shrimp-based broth, which is used in all their ramen dishes. As you approach the shop, you’ll be greeted by the delightful aroma of shrimp broth. While “Ebi Shio” (shrimp salt ramen) is a favorite among overseas guests, my personal recommendation is “Ebi Miso”! Unlike the typical curly noodles of Sapporo ramen, they use straight medium-thick noodles. Sapporo is filled with countless ramen shops, so be sure to find your favorite spot 😙
