I was feeling stuffy because I was staying at home too much, so I met up with A, who works near Gwanghwamun, to change the mood. After a quick greeting, we headed straight to Gwanghwamun Plaza for lunch. We arrived at Uyukmyeon House, a mecca for office workers. Even though we left at 11:30, there were a ton of people. I ordered the most basic Uyukmyeon and fried dim sum. I am a master of living alone and have a lot of knowledge about dim sum because I ate a lot of it in China around 2016. Even though there were a lot of people, it only took about 10 minutes for the food to come out. Fried dim sum. It was truly a revolutionary taste. I have been to Chinatowns in Korea, such as Incheon and Busan, but this dim sum was different. It was fried so that the meat juice was still there that it burned the roof of my mouth. The dumpling skin was evenly distributed, and the size of the dumpling itself was also considerable. Next was the beef soup noodles. This one was also bland, but successful. It wasn’t for nothing that office workers frequent it. The broth is less flavorful than authentic Chinese beef soup noodles, but the green onions and garlic unique to Korean food add to the savory flavor. There isn’t much meat, but since there are so many noodles, let’s skip it. The average price for beef soup noodles and dim sum combined was about 12,000 won. It’s not cheap for a lunch menu. But beef soup noodles aren’t something you eat every day, so… After quickly finishing the beef soup noodles, our next destination was Cheonggyecheon. Cheonggyecheon was opened to the citizens of Seoul after the restoration project. Since then, it has become a healing space for Seoul citizens. In particular, people who came out to eat lunch and rest at Gwanghwamun and Jonggak were crowded. The only downside to Seoul is that although there is air conditioning inside the buildings, you have to face the hot city air outside. Starting with the heat from cars, outdoor units, and numerous factory complexes, Seoul’s temperature rises even higher. Therefore, Seoul citizens are said to soak their feet under the bridge or in Cheonggyecheon and rest.
