🇰🇷Jogyesa Temple in Seoul🇰🇷

#aprilblooms 🇰🇷Soulful Seoul🇰🇷 We visited the Jogyesa Temple on the 1st day of the Lunar New Year💕 The temple was first established in 1395, at the start of the Joseon Dynasty. The modern temple was established in 1910 and was originally located at a different location. At this time, the temple was known as Gakhwangsa. It was then finally moved to this location in 1937. This temple is one of the most important Buddhist temples in South Korea, we saw people praying at the temple and also just sitting down to bask in the atmosphere. I loved the display of the colorful lotus lanterns around the temple. There is also the 500-year old Lacebark Pine Tree which features a distinctive and beautiful brown bark. These types of trees grow and reproduce slowly making them very rare and important to the history of Korea. Jogyesa Temple is open 24 hours everyday so make sure to give it a visit when in Seoul💙 📍Jogyesa Temple Seoul,South Korea #xmastrip #myhiddengems #summervacation #freehotelstay #familytrip #localguides #manila #historicallandmarks #mytravelhacks #passionpassport #awesomepic #urbanexplorer #asia #foodie #asiatrip #mustdo #food #trip #travel #naturalwonders #couplestrip #thingstodo #seoul #hongkong #springwander #southkorea #myitinerary

Jogyesa Temple

The Jogyesa Temple (the center of Korean Buddhism) is the main and the head temple of the Jogye order, in Seoul. Built in the 14th century, it opens its doors for visitors all year round (located two blocks away from Jonggak Station). Celebrations for Buddha’s Birthday together with the annual lantern festival are held in this temple. If you visit Korea during April/May, you could join this celebration practically at any Buddhist Temple in the country. #GiveThanks
