During my visit, I explored the exhibition Beyond Joseon Minhwa, a captivating display of Korean art from the late 18th and 19th centuries. What makes this exhibition particularly fascinating is its focus on minhwa — the art of the common people. These pieces depict everyday life and folk beliefs, offering a glimpse into the hopes and dreams of those often overlooked by more elite artistic traditions. The museum’s collection of pyeongpung (folding screens) was especially impressive, showcasing a remarkable range of themes and artistic styles.
