Yongding Temple in Zhoupu: One of the "Three Great Forests of Pu Zuo"

Yongding Temple is located at No. 1, Lane 270, Zhou East Road, Zhoupu Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It is a Buddhist temple with a long history. It was first built during the Chunxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1174–1189), and has a history of more than 800 years. It is known as one of the "Three Great Forests of Pu Zuo". Many literati in the Ming and Qing dynasties wrote poems about it, such as Zhu Shouyan's "Nostalgia for Yongding Temple" in the Qing Dynasty. Yongding Temple has a magnificent architectural scale. The whole temple is rectangular in shape from north to south. The Hall of Heavenly Kings, the Three-Sided Guanyin Statue Square, the Grand Hall, and Yongding Tower are arranged on the central axis, with the Bell and Drum Tower and the Medicine Buddha Hall on both sides. Among them, the 11-meter-high white marble Three-Sided Guanyin Statue in the temple square is the tallest open-air Guanyin statue in Shanghai, and has the same origin as the Nanshan Guanyin Statue in Sanya. The Nine-Dragon Screen Wall and Yongding Bridge in front of the temple, and the sculptures and bridges in the square in front of the Hall of Heavenly Kings are very traditional. The Wanfo Pavilion (built in the Shunzhi period of the Qing Dynasty) in the temple was once a place to climb high on the Double Ninth Festival, and the "Yongding Morning Bell" is one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Zhoupu.
