Shen Garden

Shen Garden is a classical garden with a long history and rich cultural heritage. Located at 318 Luxun Middle Road, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province, Shen Garden was originally a private garden of a wealthy merchant with the last name Shen during the Southern Song Dynasty, hence the name "Shen's Garden." The garden once featured pavilions, terraces, small bridges, and flowing water, creating a pleasant scenery. In the 21st year of Shaoxing in the Southern Song Dynasty (1151), the patriotic poet Lu You and his ex-wife Tang Wan reunited here. Lu You inscribed the poem *Chai Tou Feng* on the garden wall, and Tang Wan also wrote a poem in response. Since then, Shen Garden has become famous for this poignant love story. Shen Garden has undergone several reconstructions and expansions, and now covers an area of about 31,000 square meters. It is divided into three parts: the Historic Site Area, the East Garden, and the South Garden: • Historic Site Area: Preserves the original remains of the Song Dynasty, such as the Hulu Pond and the hill. The other buildings are mostly restored based on archaeological findings. • East Garden: Also known as the Couple's Garden, it showcases the characteristics of Jiangnan gardens. • South Garden: Consists of the Lianli Garden and the Lu You Memorial Hall. Shen Garden has many attractions, including the Guhe Pavilion, Banbi Pavilion, Shuanggui Hall, Bayong Tower, Song Well, Wenmei Threshold, Qintai, and Guangsi Studio. Among them, Shuanggui Hall, named after the golden and silver osmanthus trees planted in the courtyard, is the venue for the Shen Garden Night Show.
