Hidden Alleyways and Local Life: Shajing Ancient Ruins, Shenzhen

Shenzhen hides a "Song Dynasty ancient ruins"—Shajing Ancient Ruins. It is one of the four ancient ruins in Shenzhen. If you like niche, artistic, and nostalgic places, then it is recommended that you take a stroll around the ruins and experience the bustling local life in the alleys. ["Stroll" Route] Shajing Ancient Ruins Main Gate > Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall > Longjin River > Oyster Shell Walls > Cultural and Creative Shops > Times Square > 5 km > Qingping Ancient Ruins (About 5 km from Shajing Ancient Ruins is "Shajing Qingping Ancient Ruins," which you can visit if time permits) [Check-in Spots] 1. Longjin River: It is said to be the "mother river" of the ancient ruins. Along both sides of the river are old houses, abandoned gardens, graffiti art, old banyan trees, and old stone bridges. 2. Longjin Stone Pagoda: Built during the Southern Song Dynasty, it is currently the oldest existing ground building in Shenzhen, a feng shui tower used by the ancients to control water. 3. Yide Hall Shajing Chen Clan Ancestral Hall/Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall: Built in the Cantonese architectural style, the carved decorations on the roof of the gatehouse are exquisite. 4. Liujiao Pavilion Square: Liujiao Pavilion, Guanyinli, the ruins of Guide Saltworks Yamen, and Weitou Ancient Well. 5. Oyster Shell Walls: This place was once known as the "Millennium Oyster Village." While strolling, you can find wall buildings mainly made of oyster shells. 6. Shajing Old Street: Along the main street, there are small shops, grocery stores, and herbal tea shops run by local residents. You can also wander into the small alleys on both sides, which is perfect for a stroll. It is said that there are sometimes intangible cultural heritage exhibitions and oyster culture festivals on holidays (I haven't encountered them myself). 7. Cultural and Creative Shops: You can find some cultural and creative coffee shops in the streets and alleys (I recommend "Laoxu Coffee"). [Tips] 1. Shajing Ancient Ruins is a niche, original, artistic, and nostalgic place to visit, with few people and a quiet atmosphere. There is also Qingping Ancient Ruins 5 km away. If time permits, it is recommended to visit both on the same day. 2. Shajing is famous for its oysters. If you find a suitable restaurant or snack bar, you can try them😄(oyster porridge, oyster and chicken porridge, etc.). 3. If you attract mosquitoes🦟, be sure to bring mosquito repellent😭.
