Seibo Memorial Hall: Impressive Sculptures

On a trip to Nagasaki, I visited the Seibo Memorial Museum in Shimabara City. The Seibo Memorial Museum is adjacent to Shimabara Castle, and is a memorial museum for the master Kitamura Seibo, who is famous for creating the Peace Memorial Statue in Nagasaki Peace Park, which everyone has probably seen at least once. The museum displays works by Kitamura, who was born in Shimabara, as well as items related to him. I enjoyed the many heroic works, such as the statue of Kato Kiyomasa, the lion statue, and the fierce tiger statue. In addition to the finished replica of the Peace Memorial Statue, sketches in the process of production were also on display, which was interesting to see. I was overwhelmed by his power and enthusiasm, and felt like I was being given a share of his power.
