Thale Noi or Thale Noi Bird Park is a freshwater lake covering an area of ​​approximately 17,500 rai, approximately 5 kilometers wide and 6 kilometers long. It is located in Nang Tung and Thale Noi sub-districts, Khuan Khanun district, Phatthalung province. It is connected to Songkhla Lake by the 2-kilometer-long Khlong Nang Riam. On the west side of the lake are houses of about 2,000 households. On the east, north and south sides are peat swamp forests and grasslands. Thale Noi was declared the Thale Noi Wildlife Sanctuary on February 18, 1975, making it the first wildlife sanctuary in Thailand. It is under the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The area around Thale Noi covers an area of ​​approximately 285,625 rai, and is the Khuan Khi Sian swamp area. It is the first wetland of international importance, or Ramsar site, in Thailand and number 948 in the register of wetlands of international importance in the Ramsar Convention. This wetland covers three provinces: Phatthalung, Songkhla and Nakhon Si Thammarat. The area along the lake consists of rice fields, peat swamp forests, grasslands, and small seas covered with aquatic plants such as water hyacinth, galangal, water hyacinth, various lotuses, and floating plants. The average depth is 1.25 meters. The wildlife that lives there are 287 species of water birds, 26 species of reptiles, and 6 species of mammals. There are also resident birds and seasonal migratory birds such as egrets, egrets, white storks, red storks, little cormorants, storks, ducks, pelicans, seagulls, egrets, red storks, etc. The period from January to April is the time when there are the most birds, about a hundred thousand. The period from March to May is the red lotus season. Boat trips to see water buffalo are usually held from December to February.
