Surat Thani City Pillar Shrine is an ancient Srivijaya architecture with historical traces of the Srivijaya Kingdom that has flourished since ancient times until today. ✨ Designed and constructed by a team of craftsmen from the Department of Fine Arts, it follows Srivijaya architecture, emphasizing the appearance of the original local architecture, which was influenced by Sri Lanka, Java, and Cambodia, to be appropriate and harmonious, similar to Phra Borommathat Chaiya, but is twice as large. 🪷 The main city pillar, the top of the pillar is carefully carved from large Ratchaphruek wood, carved in the Srivijaya art style. On top are the four faces of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, facing all four directions, and the hair bun is carved to show the Buddha in meditation posture, with exquisite gold lacquer. The main city pillar is also carved from Ratchaphruek wood. It is a large round pillar, 108 inches high and 20 inches in diameter. The shape of the shrine is a rectangular shape with recessed corners. The pavilion is built as a main pagoda with a 5-tiered umbrella spire. Below that is a roof layered into 4 levels of pavilions. Each level has a subsidiary pagoda. The roof has a square base, 5.10 meters high and 2.10 meters wide, decorated with Srivijaya stucco patterns, painted in gold. Lotus patterns are molded on the jackfruit petals on all 4 sides. The symbol of the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great is decorated on all 4 sides.
