It is said that there are more udon shops in Kagawa than convenience stores. It would be a shame to come across a bad udon shop on a short trip, right? 🤔 This time, as a former Kagawa resident, I will introduce three carefully selected udon shops that are popular in the area! [1. Udon Market Menkui] It may look like any other udon shop, but it is Kagawa after all. It is delicious! The meat udon is an exquisite dish that combines plenty of tender beef with chewy noodles and a gentle broth. I think the udon shops in Kagawa are really amazing because it is so cheap 🙌 [2. Handmade Udon Santoku] When you think of Kagawa, you think of udon. This udon shop seems to be popular, and there were so many people there that it was a bit difficult to park the car. I was interested in the Yamakake, but since I visited in the summer, I chose the unusual summer noodles. So I had one summer noodle and eggplant tempura. I was surprised when I ate it, as the udon noodles were very distinctive. The noodles are thick and chewy, so you have to chew them thoroughly before you can swallow them. There were a lot of toppings on top, and the portions were big, so I was pretty full. The food was well-balanced and tasty, so I really liked it. Of course, the eggplant tempura was also delicious, with a crispy batter! [3. Udon Seto Hare] This is a very popular udon restaurant. It seems to be visited by many people from Kagawa, as well as from outside the prefecture. I visited in August, and it took about an hour and a half from when I started lining up until I could eat. I ordered the seasonal sudachi chilled udon. I was surprised by the texture when I took a bite. It was really chewy, with a unique texture that was chewy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I was also surprised that the broth was not made with dried sardines, but rather had a very strong bonito flavor. It smelled more fishy than dried sardines, or at least it had a strong flavor. (I don't really like the smell of fish, so I didn't like the broth either.) The large vegetable tempura with octopus was also delicious, so I recommend it!
