The Roman Circus of Tarragona, also known as the Circus of Tarraco, is one of the best preserved circuses in the West. The 5 euro entrance fee is worth it because not only can you see the remains of a Roman circus inside, the interior decoration is worth it and with a little imagination it can take you back to the past in Roman times. You can also see the underground tunnels before reaching the Pretorius or Pila Castle (so named because Pilate lived there), a tower that offers one of the best views of Tarragona. Furthermore, in 2025 Tarragona will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Tarraco archaeological complex becoming a UNESCO Heritage City. The Circus was built at the end of the 1st century between the Via Augusta and the Provincial Forum. The building was used to host performances such as chariot races.
