Greek-style horseshoe-shaped ancient church

Mediterranean Coast Tour of Spain ~ Barcelona (Region) The Church of Sant Miquel is the only one among the three churches in this monumental complex that has preserved its original 9th to 10th-century floor plan. It features a square layout with a Greek cross and a horseshoe-shaped apse that is polygonal on the exterior. The central dome is supported by eight columns, whose capitals are repurposed Roman and Visigothic designs. Beneath the apse lies the crypt of Saint Celerinus, which includes a small chapel with a trefoil apse. The old entrance has been sealed with wooden planks, and the current door was opened in the 17th century. The structure follows a Romanesque style, alternating rows of stone and brick. The central window of the apse is a brick-built cross arch. The apse preserves pre-Romanesque frescoes depicting Christ surrounded by angels, with the Twelve Apostles below.
