Its history spans over 2,500 years, covering various periods such as the Iberian era, Catholicism, Byzantine, Visigothic, Roman, and the modern era when it was reclaimed by the Catholic Church. This site now serves as a museum where visitors can admire remarkable Roman ruins, some of Europe's most significant ancient frescoes, and several spectacular altarpieces. It is the only ancient Mediterranean cathedral complex that has preserved its painted decorations.
