Phra That Tha Uthen

Phra That Tha Uthen is the sacred chedi for those born on Friday. The chedi faces north and is located at the northernmost point of Phra That Phanom. The chedi is a brick and mortar stupa in a rectangular shape similar to Phra That Phanom. It has a smaller base but is taller than Phra That Phanom. The base and the relics are beautifully stuccoed. There is no clear history of its construction. The only known history is the inscriptions on the chedi wall, which state that Phra Ajahn Sitat Yanasampanno was the leader in inviting monks and laymen to jointly construct it in 1912 and completed it in 2011. It contains the relics of the Buddha, which were brought from Yangon in 1997, as well as Buddha images and valuables. The lower gate of the chedi on the southern side has collapsed. The Fine Arts Department therefore completed the renovation in 1998, and added concrete beams inside to prevent the pagoda from collapsing. In late 2014, Phra That Tha Uthen was renovated again, and was completed in May 2015.
