Tiantai Mountain Waterfall

Tiantai Mountain Waterfall is located on the west slope of Tongbai Mountain in Tiantai County. It is a national 5A-level scenic area. The waterfall has a total drop of 325 meters and a maximum width of 90 meters. It is a rare high-drop, water-friendly, tiered waterfall group, known as the highest waterfall in China. Tiantai Mountain Waterfall was originally called Tongbai Waterfall, also known as Sanjing Waterfall. It has been famous since ancient times. "The red city rises and builds a mark, and the waterfall flies to the boundary." In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the great writer Sun Chuo, in his "Traveling to Tiantai Mountain", listed it as a landmark of Tiantai along with Chicheng Mountain. It will become an important milestone in the high-quality development of Tiantai's all-region tourism. In 1958, to meet the needs of agricultural production and people's lives, the county party committee and county government decided to build the Tongbai Reservoir. Two years later, the Tongbai Hydropower Station was completed, and the waterfall was cut off. In the new century, the province's first cross-basin water diversion project, Tongbai Pumped Storage Power Station, and Huanglong Reservoir were successively built in this area. The completion of these projects laid the foundation for the restoration of the Tiantai Mountain Waterfall. In 2013, the government decided to restore the Tiantai Mountain Waterfall. The goal is to build the Tiantai Mountain Waterfall into a high-drop, water-friendly, tiered waterfall group with stable and adjustable flow throughout the year through construction and renovation. In 2016, the county party committee and county government positioned the waterfall scenic area as the core scenic area of Tiantai Mountain's scenic tourism and included it in the province's key construction projects and major industrial demonstration projects. Tiantai Mountain Waterfall is surrounded by mountains and water, with excellent feng shui, and the culture of immortals and Taoism is prosperous. In history, Fusheng Temple, Tiantai Temple, and Waterfall Temple were all around here. For more than a thousand years, literati and poets such as Sun Chuo, Wang Xizhi, Li Bai, Lu You, and Xu Xiake have come here to explore the mysteries and seek the Tao, leaving many poems, songs, travel notes, cliff carvings, and inscriptions, adding unique cultural charm to the waterfall scenic area. ⏳Visiting time: Tickets are required, priced at CNY 100.
