[Tokyo/Koenji Hikawa Shrine] Hikawa, the guardian deity of Koenji

Located in Koenji Minami, Suginami Ward, this shrine is easily accessible from the station! There is a theory that when Minamoto no Yoritomo invaded Oshu, he ordered Adachi Tokuro Morinaga to build the shrine, and another theory is that when his vassal Murata Hyobu stayed in Koenji Village and became a farmer, he enshrined the Hikawa Shrine in Omiya and built the shrine. Either way, it is thought to have been founded during the Tenbun era (1532-15), around the same time as the founding of the Soto Zen sect Koenji temple in the village.
