[Tokyo/Sumiyoshi Shrine] I'm glad I went in 2023! Shrines in Tokyo 8

Sumiyoshi Shrine is located in Chuo Ward, Tokyo. The head shrine of Sumiyoshi is Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine in Osaka, a shrine that enshrines the god of navigation. At the command of Tokugawa Ieyasu, fishermen and priests from Osaka relocated there, and built Tsukuda Island on the tidal flats bestowed by the shogunate. Sumiyoshi Shrine was then enshrined at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine. It was founded in 1646. As it is located at the entrance to Edo Port (Tokyo Bay), it has been worshiped as the guardian deity of maritime safety. The shrine building looks very simple, but behind it you can see the shipyard! The thing that caught my eye the most was the plaque. It is made of pottery, and the inscription is said to have been written by Prince Arisugawa Norihito. I was immediately drawn to its beauty. Also, if you leave the grounds and head towards the Sumida River, you will find the first vermilion-painted torii gate.
