Trat City Pillar Shrine, the easternmost point

Trat City Pillar Shrine is located on Lak Muang Road near Wat Yothanimit. This shrine is different from other city pillar shrines as the building is built in the style of a Chinese pavilion. Trat City Pillar Shrine is an important part of Trat and is the spiritual center of both Thai and Chinese people who have lived in the province from the past to the present. There is a story that the establishment of the city pillar was around the same time as Wat Yothanimit was built when the people gathered troops to restore independence in Trat. King Taksin ordered its construction according to Chinese beliefs in order to protect Trat from danger and for the people to live in peace and happiness. The City Pillar Shrine is like the center of Thai-Chinese relations. Inside the City Pillar Shrine, the tall pillar is the city pillar and the low pillar is the Shiva Linga pillar. There is a story that the Shiva Linga was originally in Tambon Huai Raeng. The mayor at that time traveled there and found it. People had faith in it and worshipped it, believing that it could cure diseases, so they invited it to be there as an important part of the city to this day. The city pillar shrine was originally a wooden building with a zinc roof behind the city pillar. Inside, there is a model of the City Pillar Shrine written in Chinese, built by Chinese people in Trat Province. Later, a new building was built to replace the dilapidated wooden building and a statue of the Lord was invited to reside there.
