Fun fact: Fireflies in Japan

🌌Fireflies, called Hotaru in Japanese, have been mentioned in many pieces of literature, songs and arts. June and July are their seasons. As Japan is gradually opening up its border to international visitors, maybe you are interested in understanding Japanese culture more and visiting some places that are known for having fireflies. In the frame @mae.saya 📍Kushiro Shitsugen National Park, Hokkaido In mid to late June, you can spot heike-Hotaru and get really close to them through the wooden pathway. 📍Tsukiyono Firefly Village, Minakami, Gunma The best time to observe fireflies is around 8~9pm near the streams in the area, which is about an hour from Tokyo by Shinkansen 📍Motosu Hotaru Park, Gifu The park is a natural habitat for fireflies. It takes about a 2-hour train ride from Kyoto. 📍Kugayama Firefly Festival, Tokyo It is more convenient if you are in Tokyo. 📍Hokubo Firefly Park, Maniwa City It is known as the “Home of the Fireflies.” It features lights along the river to attract fireflies. The nearby town is an old-fashioned Japanese village.
